The 4600-acre Jack Creek Preserve was created in 2005 by Jon Fossel, an avid bowhunter and fisherman, and Dottie Fossel, a passionate champion for preserving our nation's historical heritage. The expanse of pristine wilderness was protected in perpetuity as a haven for wildlife, hunting, and conservation education.
The Preserve boundaries were strategically drawn so that it connects the northern and southern portions of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness. The Preserve also carries a conservation easement, limiting development and protecting a wildlife corridor that spans from Yellowstone National Park to the Gallatin Valley.
Upon its creation, the Foundation enlisted the help of several partner organizations by inviting representatives to serve on the board. Since then, the Foundation has been overseen by a volunteer board of directors representing the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the Pope & Young Club, local schools, and other partners, as well as members of the Fossel family.
